Big And Cold And Big

5/27/17

I never knew so much wonder could be possibly fit into one day. A little after noon, we caught a train from town to an outpost about 20 minutes away and within short distance of a seven mile giant of ice. It rested between two mountains and is the birth giver to the large lake at its feet. Dressed in more layers than has the Grand Canyon, we paired up in out tandem kayaks and set out on those icy grey waters. Our guide told us this lake measured 500 ft. deep, only because the measuring rope had run out before reaching the bottom and to be sure a steer away from the bergs, as they are so much bigger than they let on.
Adding on even more gear, our feet meet that beast at last. It is a world of its own. There are mountains and rivers and valleys and caves and waterfalls, welling up and living in all directions, as far as the eye could see. To see and touch all this life seemed like a dream. So many shades of white and aqua blue never seemed possible. Our trek led us through this dreamland to a waterfall and pool called by those who know it, the Fountain Of Youth. We drank straight from it before hearing the beat of blades in the air from our approaching ride. A pair of perfectly red helicopters landed on a flat to take us back over the ice and on an arial tour of the rest of the valley. We are like that air, and beat with excitement still even now, hours later.
