Beginning Of The End
5/30/17
We slept in this morning the longest we have the whole trip and had a lazy morning with pancakes and strawberries. Mara and I venture into town for a couple hours to look around the shops and take in the sunny morning. About 1:00, the rest of our little gang drives into town to pick us up and together we drive the short distance to the local home of sled dogs in training. We are taken on a tour by these hard workers themselves and are introduced to the two, newest additions to the pack. We have a dinner of seafood and I walk the trail by the beach while Mara runs. We are to leave early tomorrow morning to catch our flight home from Anchorage and we can all feel what has been a little eternity coming to a close.
Alaska has come to mean so much for me, even in this short time of introduction. I can tell you all that I saw and I can try to explain to you the quiet explosion this place delivers on the senses, but I cannot be the wind burning and awakening the face. I cannot be the tremendous presence of the mountains, or the vast expanse of that blue sea. I cannot be the sweetness in the air or the haunting song of a native bird. I can only be the effect of all these things and certainly I can only be a meager messenger of the grand tale.
